Forest, Va. -- William Casey of the University of Lynchburg men's soccer team was selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

A productive offensive week for the Hornets was paced by Casey, who scored twice and assisted one goal this past weekend. The Chapel Hill, N.C. native netted Lynchburg's first goal of the game against Hope that resulted in a 2-1 triumph, then notched a goal and a helper in a 5-1 victory against Salisbury.

In the match against Hope, Izaack Cruz sent in a cross from outside the goalkeeper area with just under a minute to go in the first half. Casey soared ahead from the far post and nodded it across the cage to net the score at 1-1. Later on, a successful set piece in the final seconds allowed the Hornets to claim a 2-1 win as Hector Rodriguez found Angel Romero for the game-winning goal.

Casey took part in two goals against the Sea Gulls, assisting what served as the game-winning goal in the first half, then scoring one of his own in the second half. In the 25th minute, Casey knocked it forward to Jefferson Lopez Coreas at the top of the box, who took one touch and fired it to the far corner for the goal. To open scoring in the second half, Casey was persistent in his attacking prowess as he fired a point-blank shot that was stopped, then continued forward and pushed past the goalie and defenders for the score to increase the Hornets' lead to 3-1.

The men's soccer team's next contest will be its first conference affair of the season. Lynchburg welcomes Randolph-Macon to Shellenberger Field on Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m.
