Lynchburg Mashes 37 Runs on Doubleheader Sweep of E&H

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team mashed 37 runs to even its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) record to 2-2 Monday afternoon with 11-6 and 26-3 victories over Emory & Henry College.

Lynchburg scored nine unanswered runs in game one to pull away for an 11-6 victory for the Hornets' first ODAC victory of the season.

LC used a four-run fourth inning to erase a 6-2 Emory & Henry lead when Wil Parsons led off with a double over the centerfielder. Joe Tomasulo drove in Parsons with a single before Jake Tanner singled. Following a sacrifice bunt, Lincoln Evans tripled down the right-field line to score Joe Tomasulo and Tanner. A Joe Rogers sacrifice fly scored Evans to tie the game at six.

Dustin Arrowood doubled in Rob Tomasulo and Evans in the sixth to give the Hornets the lead for good.

The Hornets added three more insurance runs in the eighth inning, capped off by an Arrowood RBI triple.

Pat Harris (1-0) pitched a scoreless 4 1/3 innings in the longest appearance of his career. He gave up three hits and two walks while striking out three for his first collegiate win.

Game two was all Lynchburg as the Hornets scored seven runs in the first inning.

Evans reached on an error to lead off game two. Rogers singled and Rob Tomasulo was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Kenyon's two-RBI single. Arrowood followed with another two-RBI single.

Tanner collected an RBI on a groundout to second and a pair of singles by Taylor and Evans plated two more Hornets to make the score 7-0.

Lynchburg batted around three times (first, fifth, and seventh innings) to plate a season-high 26 runs on 26 hits.

Brandon Miller (3-2) made his first start of the season for LC, going seven innings of two-run ball, scattering 10 hits and one walk while striking out three.

Christian Bloesl, Ryan Katona, Andrew Gauvain, and Brenden LaPorte collected their first collegiate hits in the victory.

D.J. Russ went 3-for-4 from the plate in game two for Emory & Henry (5-7/3-2), including a scoreless eighth inning on the mound.

Joe Tomasulo had six hits and six RBI for the Hornets between the two games while Arrowood added to his season total with seven RBI. Evans finished 5-for-11 at the plate with four runs scored and three RBI.

Lynchburg (9-3/2-2) hosts North Carolina Wesleyan College (2-10) in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
