Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Field Hockey dominated the home finale for the 2016 season as they overwhelm the Panthers of Ferrum College, 8-0.
From the get go, the Hornets asserted their gameplan of a feirce attack and relentless defense with the backline and midfield keeping the Panthers in their own half for a majority of the first half.
The first goal came in the just four minutes in after sophomore Nikki Simpao put home a shot off of a cross from sophomore Kayla Copeman, the fifth assist for Copeman on the year which is second-best on the team.
Only three minutes passed before Lynchburg struck again, this time from senior Ashley Heuberger after junior Karissa LeMaire sent a ball into the box.
Simpao found the back of the net again in the 17th minute and the Hornets showed no signs of letting up as they continued to penetrate the Panther backline. The final goal of the half came from junior Kristina Geisler off of a blast from just inside the top of the circle. LeMaire was credited with her sixth assist after inserting the corner to Geisler.
LeMaire would switch roles and found the back of the net after tipping in a shot from senior Alyssa Mills on the back post. Sophomore Isabella Eldridge continues to menace opposing defenses as she recorded her fifth goal in four games in the 48th minute.
The second half saw a rotation of bench players earning valuable gametime experience including junior MacKenzie Price and freshman Abigail DeFino. Price recorded a goal and was credited for the assist after inserting a corner to DeFino who's shot from the top of the circle was deflected but chipped the Ferrum keeper for the final Lynchbug goal.
Leading the Hornets with 11 shots was Simpao while Geisler and Eldridge pitched in with four and three shots respectively. Senior goalkeeper Beka Hess had a fairly easy night and with the win moves to 9-6 on the season.
The ladies look to lock up homefield advantage and the top spot in the ODAC, traveling to Eastern Mennonite on Saturday for the final game of the season.
