Records Fall as Field Hockey Defeats Sweet Briar, 18-0

Box Score

Sweet Briar, Va. -- Long standing records fell as the Hornets overpowered the Vixens, 18-0, in a Tuesday night clash of ODAC foes.

Lynchburg took down or tied three single-game team records in the shutout. They conquered the previous record for most points in a game by six after collecting 46 points on 18 goals and 10 assists while also breaking a 20-year old record for most goals in a game by two. The Hornets tie the record for most assists in a game with 10, happening only twice before tonight.

Senior Beka Hess and freshman Hannah Chapman split halves but recorded no saves as the defense kept the Vixens on their side and allowing them to trek across the midfield line only a handful of times.

The Hornets utilized the entire roster and freshmen such as Lindsay Riley, Kalia Hindt, Elizabeth Gerhart and Elissa Presselin garnered vaulable time on the field and even recorded stats in the win.

The Hornets scored within the first two minutes of the first half when the sophomore duo of Nikki Simpao and Isabella Eldridge hooked up for a goal, the first for Eldridge on the year. Between the 6th and 18th minutes, Lynchburg extended their lead by seven as Eldridge added another score while juniors Hannah Krause and Lacey Elliott and sophomore Mallory Henderson each added two and senior Alyssa Mills and freshman Keely Lunsmann tacked on one a piece.

Junior Mackenzie Price scored three times and added an assist while sophomore Ann Grotos scored back-to-back goals in the 57th and 58th minutes. Other Hornet scorers included senior Ashley Heuberger, Riley and Hindt.

The Field Hockey team will look to continue their offensive upswing this weekend with a trip to Pennsylvania for a bout with Dickinson on Oct. 7 at 3:00 p.m.
