Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team blew past the competition Saturday, sweeping St. Mary's (Md.) and Guilford without dropping a single set.
The second victory of the day marked Lynchburg's first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season. The Hornets are now 3-0 on the spring campaign.
The Hornets got the day started right with 8-0 doubles wins over the Seahawks by junior Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) and sophomore Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.) at No. 1 and at No. 3 thanks to freshman Alissa Anderson (Norfolk, Va.) and senior Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.).
Harris, the 32nd-ranked player in Division III, rolled at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, and Altenburg at No. 4 and senior Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) at No. 6 both produced the same result as Lynchburg won handily.
The afternoon brought the Hornets their first ODAC competition of 2019, and Lynchburg carried the momentum into the match.
Harris and Guill won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, followed by 8-0 sweeps at the other two slots by senior Sarah Wyly (Leesburg, Va.) and sophomore Emily Hoang (Sterling, Va.) along with Altenburg and Anderson.
Hoang and Coon won without dropping a game at the fifth and sixth singles slots to cap off the day.
Lynchburg's women's match against York (Pa.) set for Sunday has been postponed, so the Hornets will next take the court Friday, March 8 at Salem. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
