Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team rallied past an early deficit to win a thrilling 5-4 decision over Southern Virginia Tuesday afternoon at home.
With all eyes on her, junior Alissa Anderson put the match away for the Hornets, overcoming a first-set loss to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at the third flight of singles play to keep Lynchburg unbeaten in 2021.
Anderson and partner Lauren Pascadlo were the lone Hornets tandem to win in the doubles section, winning 8-2 at No. 2 as the Knights took an early 2-1 lead.
SVU quickly won a decision at No. 5 singles and led the match 4-2 following Pascadlo's 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 and a Knights win at the second flight.
Lynchburg turned the tide with its back against the wall. Senior Caroline Guill won 6-0, 7-6 at the sixth flight, and graduate student Christina Harris won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 to even the match.
Anderson, after falling in the first set, took control of her match and gave the home crowd something to cheer for at the end.
Lynchburg improves to 7-0 on the season with the victory and will put that unblemished record on the line Friday with a trip to another quality non-conference opponent in Averett.
