Greensboro, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg men's golf sophomore Eddie Coffren V sits in fifth place after Round 1 at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's golf tournament.
Coffren V was on a tear on the front-9 sinking four birdies. The Hornets were -5 on opening nine holes with Harrison Smith -1, and Andrew Watson and Alan Van Asch even.
The back-9 proved a little more challenging, but Coffren V still came into the clubhouse at -3. The Owings, Md. native carded his best round this season with a 69. The 2022 ODAC rookie of the year tied for fourth at 2022 ODAC championships.
The Hornets shot a 290 on Day 1 at the Forest Oaks Country Club. They are in third place and six strokes behind first-place Guilford.
Lynchburg is the 25th-ranked team in the country according to Golfstat.com, Guilford is fifth, and second-place Washington and Lee is 10th.
The Hornets are seeking their first-conference trophy since 1989.
