Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team took a trip to the Sunshine state for the NCAA DIII Championship Preview, hosted by Oglethorpe, and finished at 16th place of the 24-team field.
Play at the Mission Inn Resort & Club spanned from Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-23 and served as a preview of the course where the NCAA division III national championship will be played this coming spring. Each of the top 19 teams, and 23 of the top 26, in last year's final Scoreboard clipped final poll dispersed on the course for the 54-hole event.
The Hornets finished 16th overall with a combined team score of 30 over par.
Simon Burgos had an impressive showing in the tournament, finishing the first round of the tournament in fourth place individually at three under par. He concluded the trip with a -1 score in the third round to round our his solid performance.
Lynchburg's top individual placement came from
Cooper Mizelle, who finished at 35th individually with an aggregate score of five over par. Mizelle's best round was on the third and final day, finishing the final 18 at two below par with five birdies.
Bryce Jones finished at 61st overall with a combined final score of 10 over par. His best round of the tournament was on day two, where he finished with a total of 71 strokes, one under par.
Alan Van Asch concluded the event at 86th overall, shooting even in the final round of the tournament, while
Joey Easmeil finished with a final total of +28.
Next up on the fall slate for the Hornets is the Tartan Invitational in Ligonier, Pa. from Monday, Oct. 13 through Tuesday, Oct. 14.
