Ligonier, Pa. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team took its talents up to Carnegie Mellon for The Tartan Invitational at Laurel Valley Golf Club and earned a top-10 placement as a team.
The Hornets finished the three-day tournament tied for ninth overall with a composite score of +47. Huntingdon took first place at the invitational with a team score of +22, while Illinois Wesleyan and Rochester tied for second with a +25 team score.
Three Lynchburg performers finished within the top-50 of the field, highlighted by sophomore
Dylan Olinger, who placed 28th overall with a total score of +11. Olinger started off strong with a +1 finish after the first round, then continued to stay solid with performances of +3 and +7 in the following two rounds.
Junior
Ben Chamberlin finished close behind Olinger at 34th overall with a +13 composite score. Chamberlin had the best 18-hole performance of any Hornet at the invitational, finishing even after the end of the second round.Â
Freshman
Sean Grzebin Jr. concluded the tournament with a score of 16 over par to place 50th overall, consistently hitting +5 or +6 in each of the three rounds. Sophomores
Cooper Mizelle and
Dennis McGowan tied for 64th individually, each putting together scores of +19.
