Blacksburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's indoor track & field squads soared to new heights at the Virginia Tech Challenge, posting two school records, an ODAC record, and multiple personal-best times.
Graduate student Courtney Drumm delivered a monumental 9:52.08 finish in the women's 3k to earn a new school record, eclipsing Kayla Werner's 10:00.34 record performance from December. Drumm becomes the first woman in Lynchburg distance history to dip under 10 minutes, shattering the mark with an astronomical 25-second personal best.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Aniya Seward and Betsy Mohnkern continued their march to nationals with a pair of PRs. Seward clipped one-hundredth of a second off her previous PR to earn 8.64, while Betsy Mohnkern took a large leap forward to finish with 8.78. In the finals, Seward finished fourth while Mohnkern crossed the line in sixth. Seward's time improved upon her own ODAC record.
Hannah Edwards (2:17.91) and Lauren Thomas (2:21.83) extended their run of stellar indoor performances, finishing in fourth and sixth respectively. The pair of distance athletes have earned a new PR in every race this season.
The men's 4x400 squad placed first in the 4x400 relay with a 3:23.87 performance to earn a spot on Lynchburg's indoor top-10 list. In the 400m dash, Allison Bobst also finished with an all-time top-10 result, finishing in 1:00.14 for eighth.
Lynchburg will travel to the Cregger Center in Salem, Va. for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25 to defend its titles.
