Greensboro, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg women's swimming graduate student Claire Galloway made history Wednesday as the first Lynchburg swimmer to compete at the NCAA Division III championships.
Galloway made her championship debut in the 50-yard freestyle on Day 1 and touched the wall in 24.60. She competed in Heat 2 placing third in the race and coming in 53rd overall.
She'll have Thursday off before competing in her keynote event on Friday, March 22. Galloway will swim in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims on Friday. That's the event she earned a B-cut for back in February to garner the proram's first invite to the championship meet. With a 1:03.61 at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships back in February, Galloway secured the second B-cut of her career. She earned the B-cut in the prelims of the event and went on to win the event for a fourth time later that night with a 1:03.92. The NCAA B-cut standard was set at 1:04.39.
