Granville, Ohio -- The University of Lynchburg women's golf program competed in the Lynn Schweizer Invitational for the second consecutive year this past weekend and finished in seventh out of 15 teams for the second year in a row.
From Saturday, August 31 through Sunday, September 1, a collection of Lynchburg women's golfers took to the course for the first time this fall season. Lily Rowe led the way, tying for ninth place with a score of seven over par. After shooting 79 on day one, she clawed her way back up the leaderboard by hitting a 73 on day two, the second best score on the day. Rowe's performance shows promise that she is set up for her best collegiate season yet.
The other Hornets that competed and showed strong efforts in the tournament this past weekend included Gabbie Hollberg (+13, t23rd),
Emma Nicol (+16, t33rd),
Grace Saunders (+18, t37th), and
Sydney Pickell (+21, t44th).
"We had a lot of fun out there with the ladies getting after it for our first event of the season," said Director of Golf Michael Veverka. "First round, we were certainly shaking off some of the first event jitters and some of the off-season rust, but then found our own coming into the final round." With a full competition now gone and the rust shaken off, the women's golf team is ready for another fantastic season in 2024.
The next competition for Lynchburg women's golf will take place in Williamstown, Mass. at the Taconic Golf Club on September 28 and 29 for the Williams Invitational.
