Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg indoor track & field teams unleash the postseason with a trip down Highway 460 to compete at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2.
Following seven weeks of racing throughout the regular season, the Hornets look to clinch their fourth-consecutive conference crown on the men's and women's sides. The men's team has captured 31 team titles heading into this season, while the Lynchburg women boast 14 conference championships in their program's history.
The ODAC championships are perennially hosted at Kerr-Cregger Field House on a 200m flat track for each indoor season. The Hornets have sent individuals to compete at Roanoke College three times during the season.Â
With news of his impending departure following the outdoor campaign, Director of Track & Field Jim Sprecher hopes to add to his 26 conference titles while at the helm in Lynchburg. Most recently, the indoor track & field squad captured the men's distance medley relay national title in 2024, led by Frank Csorba, Jacob Hodnett, Sam Llaneza and Chasen Hunt.
On Saturday, the track slate will feature the men's and women's 5,000m run, distance medley relay and prelims for the 60m hurdles followed by the 60m dash. The field events will also be divided equally among the two days.
Last year, both Hornet squads won dominantly. The Lynchburg women won the meet by a whopping 102 points, while the men's squad ousted Washington & Lee by 46 points. This season looks to present a much closer competition on the women's side, as Washington & Lee's cross country program earned eighth place at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the fall.
Lynchburg looks to tally several individual titles as the team has garnered consistent ODAC Athlete of the Week honors. Tristan Wright and Betsy Mohnkern earned the honor in the final week of the regular season and look to ride momentum into the conference climax.Â
Additionally, Chasen Hunt etched two ODAC records into the history books during the regular season, clocking 4:02.58 in the mile and 7:56.92 in the 3,000m run. He is one of only five individuals in DIII history to break the eight-minute mark in the men's 3k.
Field events begin at noon on Saturday, while running events are slated to kick off with the women's 5,000m run at 3:30 p.m.
