Hornets Open Outdoor Slate in Lexington and Myrtle Beach

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg track & field teams begin the 2025 outdoor campaign with a split-squad weekend, sending athletes to compete at the W&L Carnival in Lexington, Va. and the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22.

Most members of the track & field team will compete at the W&L Carnival, with running events beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Field events commence with the women's hammer throw at 11:00 a.m.

Lynchburg returns to the outdoor oval following a historic weekend at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Rochester, N.Y. where the Hornets tallied six first-team All-American performances. The men's squad finished fourth in the nation with 27 points, despite only competing with six individuals.

For several athletes, this weekend marks the first performance since the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Championships three weeks ago. With the spring slate spanning the months of March and April, many individuals hope to solidify conference standards early in the season. Many Hornets who competed at the national championships will either complete pacing jobs or rest this weekend.

Every race at the W&L Carnival will go straight to finals, rather than racing a prelim on day one. Friday evening includes the 1,500m run, 5,000m run, 4x400m relay and 10,000m run with sprint events beginning Saturday.

The group traveling to Myrtle Beach consists primarily of field event athletes and those competing in the women's heptathlon or men's decathlon.  Lynchburg's Margo Fox and Micah Leech look to compete in these multi-events and work closer to achieving national qualification for the outdoor championships.
