Hornets Rally for Final Regular Season Meet

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg outdoor track & field teams will send athletes to compete at the Virginia Challenge and the WildCat Invitational on Friday, Apr. 18 and Saturday, Apr. 19 for the final weekend of the regular season.

As the latter portion of a five-week sprint through the outdoor season, the Hornets look to perfect final marks and position themselves to earn favorable seeds ahead of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Eastern Mennonite University.

In Charlottesville, both Lynchburg 4x100m relay teams will compete, along with Kacey Kelly in the women's javelin and Jamarcus Brown in the men's high jump.

The men's 4x100m team launched a fiery comeback to win the event at last weekend's Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic, while the women's squad placed second. Following results from other meets, the Lynchburg men occupy the 21st-fastest time in the nation; the top 16 teams in DIII will advance to the 2025 NCAA Championships.

Kelly's 131' 6" (40.08m) throw at the Colonial Relays is 16th in the nation, while Brown is tied for fourth in the men's high jump with a 6' 9" mark.

On the home front, the Hornets will make the 10-minute drive to Randolph College to race local opponents at the WildCat Invitational. Friday's throwing events will be hosted at Moon Field at the University of Lynchburg, while Saturday's oval events will occur across town at WildCat Stadium.

Several Lynchburg athletes will not race or compete this weekend as they prepare for the conference championships.

Temperatures will climb considerably ahead of the weekend, with highs expected in the 80s in Lynchburg on Friday and Saturday. In Charlottesville, highs could reach 89 degrees at UVA on Saturday.
