Men's Track & Field Sweeps USTFCCCA Regional Awards

New Orleans, La. -- The University of Lynchburg men's outdoor track and field program earned all four of the 2025 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field South Regional Awards, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday afternoon.

The South Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year Award was presented to non other than Chasen Hunt, the reigning 5,000 meter national champion. The Forest, Va. native topped the field at the NCAA DIII National Championships in the 5k with a time of 14:10.51, beating out the next finisher by nearly five seconds. Earlier this season, Hunt demolished the NCAA DIII all-time record in the 5k at the Bryan Clay Invitational, clocking a 13:41.96 to smash the previous all-time best by five seconds. Hunt additionally earned the top spot in the ODAC Championships in the 5k and snagged the third-best outdoor mile time in division III history at the Hill City Twilight with a time of 4:00.96.

Freshman jumper Jamarcus Brown was bestowed the South Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year Award. The rookie phenom set the outdoor program record in the high jump earlier this season at the Hill City Twilight with a 2.11-meter leap (6'11"). At the NCAA DIII National Championships, he earned First-Team All American status with a fifth place finish, soaring to a height of 2.06m (6'9").

Jim Sprecher and Jake Reed were selected as the South Region Men's Head and Assistant Coaches of the Year. Sprecher and Reed saw two of their student-athletes achieve national titles, the first occasion in which Lynchburg won multiple individual national championships in the same season since 1999. The coaching staff led their group to incredible heights, setting DIII all-time records with Chasen Hunt in the 5k and Tor Hotung-Davidsen in the mile with a 3:58.35. In their 10th season with the Hornets, Lynchburg won its 33rd outdoor conference championship and placed seventh overall at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships.
