Norman, Okla. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team was voted the No. 8 team in the nation across NCAA Division III in the first Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll of the 2025-26 academic year, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Friday.Â
The Hornets are coming off one of the most successful campaigns in program history last season. After a second consecutive ODAC Championship title, Lynchburg earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. In Rochester, N.Y., the Hornets placed seventh overall as a squad, the best placement for the program in 45 years and tied for the second-best finish in school history.Â
Eddie Coffren V earned the 2025 NCAA Division III Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award and became the first Lynchburg men's golfer to ever win the individual national title. Though Coffren and
RJ Cupelli graduated this past spring, the Hornets retain the remainder of the 2024 roster for this upcoming season.Â
Four ODAC institutions landed spots within the top-25 for the preseason coaches poll. Washington and Lee earned the highest ranking at No. 2Â with 387 points and one first-place vote. Lynchburg was the next highest, followed by Guilford tied at No. 15 with 174 points and Hampden-Sydney at No. 19 with 115 points. Additionally, Averett appeared in the receiving votes category.Â
Lynchburg is set to embark on its 2025 fall season with the Gate City Classic in Greensboro, N.C. from Monday, Sept. 15 through Tuesday, Sept. 16.
