Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg indoor track & field teams will close out the month of January in three locations, sending athletes to compete at the Roanoke Bast-Cregger Invitational, Wittenberg's Steamer Showcase, and the Brant Tolsma Invitational at Liberty University between Thursday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 31.
Most distance athletes will travel to Springfield, Ohio to compete at Wittenberg University, while the remainder of the team will make the trek to Roanoke College. Before the weekend, a handful of Hornets will face stellar Division I opponents at Liberty's Brant Tolsma Invitational.
Brant Tolsma Invitational (Lynchburg, Va.)
In anticipation of potential inclement weather on Saturday, Liberty University prepares to host the Brant Tolsma Invitational on Thursday and Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Lamont Victoria will look to continue his early success in the men's high jump, just one week removed from posting a 6' 10¾" to earn the top position on the DIII indoor qualifying list. Chasen Hunt will make his senior 3k debut, while Alex Jordan competes in the men's 5k.
Each event will feature a heavy slate of competition, including athletes from Northern Arizona, the University of North Carolina, North Carolina A&T and other Division I schools.Â
The Brant Tolsma Invitational will also welcome back two familiar faces from the Lynchburg distance program: Coach Jake Reed and graduate student Tor Hotung-Davidsen.
Coach Reed, now an assistant coach for Northern Arizona, led the Hornets to four individual track & field titles during his tenure. Reed secured 24 Old Dominion Athletic Conference titles and 33 All-American selections throughout his tenure, while Sam Llaneza took over the distance coaching position ahead of the 2025-2026 academic year.
Hotung-Davidsen claimed a national title in the men's 1,500m at the 2025 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Hotung-Davidsen posted a 3:42.12 personal best at the Bryan Clay Invitational to earn the ODAC record.Â
To begin this indoor season, the grad student clocked a 4:02.31 performance in the mile, which converted to 3:52.10 and first on the NCAA DI qualifying list at the time.

The 300-meter flat track, known as "The Steemer", features six lanes, while the facility accommodates five sports teams.
Lynchburg will enter a slew of distance athletes in the meet, with athletes competing in the 5k, mile and 800m run.

The remaining sprints, jumps and throws athletes will return to Kerr-Cregger Field House for the team's second competition at Roanoke College this season.
Heading into the weekend, Lynchburg has notched nine top-25 performances in Division III. Among those competing at Roanoke, Micah Leech, Kacey Kelly and Kenzie Swicegood have each clinched top-10 performances in their respective events to open the season.
Sprint prelims and semifinal rounds will commence on Friday, January 31, along with the 4x800m relay, 500m, 1,000m and 5,000m run. The remaining track events will occur on Saturday, along with most field events.
