Blacksburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's indoor track & field team shattered the 4x400m relay program record with a 3:55.09 performance, highlighting several personal-best marks from the Doc Hale Invite at Virginia Tech.
Rylee Turner, Hannah Edwards, Madelyn Boyce and Kaitlyn Ruiz each posted splits under the 60-second mark to improve the previous record by three seconds. With the improved time, the Hornets occupy 15th on the Division III indoor qualifying list. The top 12 teams advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
In the men's heptathlon, Micah Leech became the second Hornet in program history to eclipse the 5,000-point threshold with a personal-best mark of 5,086. Leech recorded PRs in the 1,000m (2:54.55) and pole vault (14' 7¼" or 4.45m), placing between fourth and eighth in every heptathlon event.Â
Demetri Hinton solidified eighth place in the men's triple jump, posting a 47' 2½" (14.39m) leap and securing an indoor personal best. Hinton sits just outside the national qualifying spots in 22nd.
In Columbia, S.C., Aidan Hipp placed ninth against Division I competition in the men's high jump at the Carolina Classic, hosted by the University of South Carolina. Hipp cleared the 6' 3½" (1.92m) bar to finish inside the top 10.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 with athletes competing at Boston University, Tufts University, Liberty University and Roanoke College
