Track & Field Prepares to Host Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg outdoor track & field teams prepare to host their first home competition of the 2026 slate as the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational takes place on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at Jack M. Toms Track.

This weekend's meet marks the first of four throughout the spring season, while it is Director of Track & Field Mario Wilson's first home outdoor event during his Lynchburg tenure. The Hornets opened their outdoor campaign at the Washington & Lee Carnival last weekend.

In addition to the home meet, several national-level competitors will compete at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University from Thursday, March 26 to Saturday, March 28.

Facility

Jack M. Toms Track features eight lanes surrounding Shellenberger Field, and both horizontal and vertical jump events will take place in the D-zones of the track. Throwing events will take place adjacent to Moon Field at the entrance of campus.

Schedule

On Friday, field events begin with the men's javelin at noon, while the women's open 5,000-meter run kicks off the track events at 6:00 p.m. Friday night's track slate exclusively features distance events, while the sprint events take place on Saturday.

For day two, the men's hammer throw will commence at 9:00 a.m. to begin field events, while track events open with the men's 4x100-meter relay at 10:30 a.m.

Weather

Temperatures will climb to 73 degrees on Friday, with cloudy skies and the potential for afternoon rainfall. On Saturday, central Virginia will cool considerably with highs in the mid-50s.

Replicating History

At last year's Jack M. Toms Invitational, Tristan Wright recorded program records in the men's 100-meter (10.39) and 200-meter dash (21.42)  to open the season. The dominant performances did not come to a halt, however, as the Hornets combined to post five Old Dominion Athletic Conference records by the end of the season.

Throughout the recent 2026 indoor campaign, Lamont Victoria set ODAC records in the men's 60-meter dash (6.70) and men's high jump (7' ½" or 2.15m). Alex Jordan broke the conference's 5,000-meter run record with a 14:11.47 performance in Boston.
