Sydney Cappallo has been named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts over the Hornets' past two games, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Lynchburg competed in two contests over the past week as part of a road trip to Maine, taking on Bates and Southern Maine. Both matchups proved to be thrillers, with each requiring extra time to determine a winner. The Hornets split the two contests, going 1-1 on the trip.
In the first contest of the week, Lynchburg squared off against Bates. After the Bobcats opened the scoring early in the second half, Cappallo, a junior transfer from Endicott, quickly responded with the equalizer on the other end to level the match at one apiece. Bates ultimately came away with a 2-1 victory in extra time.
Cappallo and the Hornets continued their road trip with a battle against Southern Maine. After Lauren Mark put Lynchburg ahead in the opening frame, Cappallo added to the Hornets' advantage in the second quarter. A strike from Sofia Boon helped set up Cappallo for Lynchburg's second goal of the day and her seventh of the season. With just two nonconference games remaining, Cappallo is tied for first in the ODAC in goals this season.
The honor marks the second ODAC weekly award for the Hornets this season, following Shay Schoones' Defensive Player of the Week recognition, and the first of Cappallo's Lynchburg career.
Lynchburg wraps up its nonconference schedule with a pair of home contests this weekend, hosting Rowan and Sewanee.
