FOREST, Va. --Â University of Lynchburg senior goalkeeper Shay Schoones has been named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following her performances across a pair of contests for the Hornets.
Schoones played all 120 minutes in the cage over the weekend as Lynchburg battled Rowan before returning to Shellenberger Field for a matchup with Sewanee. The senior totaled 13 saves while allowing just two goals, posting an .867 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average across the two contests.
The Hornets opened the weekend against Rowan, with Schoones facing consistent pressure from the Profs throughout the afternoon. Rowan placed 11 shots on goal, but Schoones turned away nine attempts to keep Lynchburg within striking distance. The senior finished the contest with an .818 save percentage as the Hornets dropped a 2-1 decision.
Schoones responded the following afternoon with a shutout performance against Sewanee. Lynchburg limited the Tigers to five total shots, four of which reached the cage, and Schoones stopped all four to help secure a 3-0 victory. Three of her four saves came in the fourth quarter as Sewanee generated its strongest offensive pressure of the contest.Â
The shutout marked a strong finish to a weekend in which Schoones surrendered only two goals across 120 minutes of action. She finished with a perfect 1.000 save percentage against Sewanee after recording nine saves one day earlier against Rowan. Across the two games, Schoones compiled a 1-1 record with 13 saves, two goals allowed and one shutout.
The honor marks Schoones' second ODAC Defensive Player of the Week selection of the 2026 season, and the third for Lynchburg this year.Â
