The 1981 Lynchburg College field hockey team posted a 22-4-1 record on its way to an Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women national runner-up finish. The 22 victories are still a record for the storied program.

Phebe Phelps and Molly Brogan both earned All-America honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, and Phelps scored a program-record 26 goals, a mark she would break the following season.

A defensive powerhouse, the team shut out its opponent in 21 of 27 contests. Goalie Katie Resor tended the cage for 20 of those shutouts, a mark that ranks second in collegiate field hockey history.
