A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, Chip Berry was a four-year mainstay and 1978 graduate of Lynchburg College. Berry was a three-year starter for the men's basketball team, two-year team Captain, and a second team All-ODAC selection in his senior season. In four years, he was the glue-guy and enforcer for the Hornets, totaling 514 rebounds, including 189 in his senior season for an average of 7.3 per game. Berry's teams combined for an overall record of 82 victories and 27 losses, won two Dixie Conference Championships, and were runner-up in the ODAC twice. The team was recognized as a Team of Distinction by the University of Lynchburg Sports Hall of Fame for its outstanding run during that time period. The 1975-76 squad lost to Monmouth College in the NCAA Regional Tournament. In a win against York his senior season, he grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds in the contest. Berry also was the head coach of the Lynchburg men's soccer team for one year in 1993. He is an extraordinary example of integrity, professionalism, sportsmanship, values, and teamwork—characteristics the University strives for in its alumni. The Lynchburg Alumni Association selected him to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award several years ago. Since graduation, Berry has been a resident and long-time educator in the City of Lynchburg. He continues to serve the University of Lynchburg on the Board of Trustees and is clearly one of the Athletic Department's biggest fans.
