The 2008 Lynchburg College softball team made program history, becoming the first Hornets team to reach the NCAA Division III national championships. The team finished 39-8 overall and 16-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play and blew past Bridgewater, Eastern Mennonite, and Virginia Wesleyan to win the program's fifth ODAC championship. At the Fayetteville, N.C. Regional, the Hornets defeated LaGrange, Neumann, and Ursinus to punch their ticket to the national championship weekend, held on familiar ground at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem. The dream season came to an end at nationals with losses to Muskingum and Ithaca, but the team's list of accomplishments reached longer than any before.

Elizabeth Perkins earned All-America honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, and Brittany Allsop, Tara Campbell, and Katie Bruce joined Perkins on the all-region squad. Perkins garnered VaSID All-State and ODAC player of the year honors, and Bruce was named top rookie on both lists as well.

The team's 39 victories remain a Lynchburg record.
