Not even five years into its National Collegiate Equestrian Association lifespan, Lynchburg's equestrian team has cemented itself as the best single-discipline program in the country. The Hornets won their first NCEA single-discipline national championship in 2022 over Sweet Briar and defended their title in 2023 with a second-straight victory in Ocala, Fla. Director of equestrian Phillip Williamson was named the NCEA's coach of the year for his efforts. The Hornets also won the school's first equestrian ODAC trophy in 2023.
