Frances Simpson '65 was a standout LC athlete in field hockey, lacrosse, and tennis, and she was also the women's basketball team manager. She was named the 1963 Virginia small college goalie of the year in lacrosse after becoming a charter member of the team.

Simpson went on to a 40-year teaching and coaching career at Lynchburg's E.C. Glass High School, coaching girls' tennis for 31 seasons. Her teams won 418 matches, two state titles, and she retired as the winningest prep tennis coach in Virginia history. She is also a member of the E.C. Glass hall of fame.

She passed away in 2020.
